The 30-share barometer, which had gained 427.17 points in the previous two sessions, moved down by 37.45 points, or 0.14 per cent, to 25,870.56, led by weakness in banking, auto, oil & gas, capital goods and PSU sector stocks.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty fell 20.45 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 7,726.10.
Brokers said besides profit-booking by speculators after recent gains, a weak trend at other Asian markets after a sharp fall in US markets, influenced the sentiments here.
Among other Asian bourses, Japan’s Nikkei was trading one per cent lower, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng shed 0.36 per cent in early trade today.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.84 per cent lower in yesterday’s trade.
