Chennai: The DMK has backed former telecom minister A Raja, who has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the 2G spectrum scam case.
The DMK General Council met in Chennai on Thursday and passed a resolution saying that the arrest doesn’t mean Raja is guilty. Sources said Raja had offered to resign as DMK propaganda secretary following his arrest on Wednesday.
The party also said that the Opposition has been unnecessarily targeting Raja.
With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, the DMK was finalising its strategy.
The party was also expected to firm up its poll strategy and finalise alliance partners for the elections.
The DMK has said that Raja’s arrest will not jeopardise its alliance with the Congress.
Reacting to the news that the DMK has decided to back Raja, BJP Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, “Why only DMK, the Congress is also backing Raja. When the PM keeps silence for two years. Not only DMK, it is the UPA which is supporting Raja.”
“Want to see what evidence CBI brings before the court. Otherwise it will be just like that of CWG officials, where they were kept in jail for two months but no chargesheet was filed. And now they were out on bail,” he said.
