Jodhpur: At least 55 people have been killed across Rajasthan after 1,200 resident doctors went on an indefinite strike against alleged lathicharge on medicos in Jodhpur.
Medical services were virtually paralysed in five major districts of Rajasthan due to the strike.
Meanwhile, one of the striking doctors contested the charge that people are dying because of the ongoing strike.
“You look at the records. People die even when we were working. So this strike can’t be blamed for the death of patients,” said one of the striking doctors.
On Saturday night, attenders of an injured patient Nemi Chand Mali allegedly misbehaved with resident doctors on duty at MDM government hospital in Jodhpur, official sources said.
A scuffle soon broke out between the medicos and the kin of the patient following which police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation, they said.
Demanding action against senior police and administration officials, private and government doctors went on a strike in around 40 hospitals in Jodhpur, while resident doctors struck work in Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Bikaner.
