Karnataka land scam: IT and Housing Minister Naidu quits

Bangalore: Karnataka IT and Housing Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu Friday resigned following a police complaint against him in a multicrore land deal, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa announced.

Karnataka Lokayukta had filed an FIR against Katta Subramanya Naidu, his son Katta Jagadish and 8 others in connection with a multi-crore land scam.

Katta and others have been charged for cheating, benami transactions, fabricating documents and forgery. According to Lokayukta, Katta and his family members bought land using fraudulent means to form an SEZ for a company called Itaska.

The case has been booked under Sections 7, 8, 12, 13(1)(D) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and also Sections 419, 420, 465, 468, 471 of IPC.

The other accused include Itaska company chief S V Srinivas, Jaggaiah, Venkaiah, Srinivas Murthy, Basavapoornaiah, Karnataka Udyog Mitra (KUM) director Shivananda, KIADB special DC Vijay Shankar, KIADB special land acquisition officer Muninarayanappa and other government officials as well as some individuals.

“I have accepted his resignation and forwarded it to Governor (HR Bhardwaj) for acceptance,” Yeddyurappa told reporters here.

He is the fourth minister of the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka to quit since it took office in May 2008.
