57 pc men, about 11 pc women use tobacco in India
New Delhi: A whopping 57 per cent men and 10.8 per cent women in the country use tobacco with Mizoram reporting the highest users among both genders.
In the age-group of 15-49 years, the men who smoke cigarettes or bidis are 32.7 per cent while the corresponding figure for women is 10.8 per cent, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
In Mizoram, 60.8 per cent of women use tobacco while 83.4 per cent of men use tobacco.
The lowest number of tobacco users was in Himachal Pradesh, the figures being 1.2 per cent women and 40 per cent men, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Trivedi said replying to a written question.
Almost 80-90 per cent of oral cancers are associated with use of chewing or smoke less tobacco.
