Hubli: More than 20 human skulls were found while removing silt from a drain at Annigeri in Navalgund taluk of Dharwad district on Saturday. An earthmover was removing the silt when the skulls were found in a row in the drain. The desilting work was stopped immediately.
The land near the drain is owned by Sikkedesai family of Annigeri. A large number of people visited the spot after the news spread.
Experts are yet to arrive for inspection. On Sunday, the Chief Officer of the Annigeri Town Panchayat got the area fenced to prevent people from entering it. The police have taken a skull for forensic tests. Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain said that according to preliminary reports, the place where the skulls were found was once a burial ground.
