Gas price hike from April 1, FIR unconstitutional, says Moily

New Delhi (PTI): The Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily said on Friday that there was no question of stalling gas price hike from April 1. He also said the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s FIR against him and others was unconstitutional.

Kejriwal had ordered registration of FIRs against Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily and former petroleum minister Murli Deora for conspiring to benefit RIL, leading to higher prices of natural gas.

Following his directive, the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government registered FIRs against Ambani, Moily and Deora under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Former general manager of hydrocarbons, V K Sibal, and RIL had also been made accused in the case.

Hitting back, Moily had said that fixing of the prices of petroleum products was done as per expert advice. He also said that he took special interest in ensuring that CNG and PNG prices were reduced.

“I think I should sympathise with his ignorance. He should know how the government functions, how these things are done… You should know that I took special interest to ensure that CNG and PNG prices were reduced,” Moily said.
