Imam issues fatwa against Shoaib

Kolkata: The Imam of historic Tipu Sultan mosque issued a fatwa asking Muslims to socially boycott Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik if he marries Indian tennis star Sania Mirza.

“The way Shoaib has cheated the girl (Ayesha Siddiqui) is condemnable. His marriage with the girl over telephone is valid as per the Shariat Islamia law,” Maulana Nurur Rahman Barkati told PTI here.

“If Shoaib accepts Ayesha, then he is a good Muslim. If he does not, he is then a bad Muslim and will be boycotted,” he said.

The Pakistani cricketer should not have suppressed his previous marriage, the Iman said.

Meanwhile, All-India Minority Forum President Idris Ali condemned Shoaib for his “refusal” to accept Ayesha Siddiqui.
