Income Tax raid on South Western Mining company

Bellary: IT officials today raided the South Western Mining Company owned by Jindal Steel Works, an action that came against the backdrop of the company and other firms making about Rs 27 crore donation to an educational trust run by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s family members.

A 15-member team conducted searches at the offices of South Western Mining company, located in the Jindal Steel Works complex in Toranagallu, official sources said here.

During the search operations, IT officials seized several documents, computers and hardware discs, sources said.

The team also questioned some company officials.

The South Western Mining Company has landed in controversy for making ‘huge’ donations through three manpower supply firms based in Maharashtra to the Prerana Education Trust in which Yeddyurappa’s two sons are trustees.
