Mulayam Singh manhandled by Maya’s police

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police personnel reportedly manhandled Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday, Mar 23 when he tried to unveil a statue of Ram Manohar Lohia here.

When Yadav was about to unveil a statue at a government hospital in the city, the police objected to it following which a scuffle broke out.

Blaming the chief minister and his political rival Mayawati for the incident, Yadav said, “The political scene in the country is changing. They did it due to the Chief Minister. Someone could have died had they pulled the ladder. Police officers were pulling the ladder even while we were inaugurating the statute with flowers.”

“They were even collecting the flowers to show the Chief Minister that they have tried their best to restrict me,” he added.

SP reportedly did not have the permission from the state government to unveil the statue, which was built on government property.

SP spokesperson Mohan, who said that the party chief was manhandled, also lashed out at the attitude of the state government.

Interestingly, Uttar Pradesh is becoming the hub of all statue controversies as the BSP supremo Mayawati herself was embroiled in a controversy over building statues of herself and other Dalit icons using public money.
