Jammu: Pakistani Army opened fire on Indian posts in Krishna Ghati sector in Mendhar area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir early on Thursday, army sources said. According to the Indian Army, this is the biggest ceasefire violation in the last one year.
Pakistani troops fired mortars and rockets directed toward the Indian and the firing continued for more than an hour, the sources said. Indian Army suspects Pakistani troops were aiding infiltrators.
The firing lasted for one and a half hours between 1.00 am to 2:30 am. The Army says it was done to facilitate cross-border infiltration. Meanwhile, no casualty has been reported so far.
Pakistani Army had been violating the cease fire, which had come into effect in November 2003, to facilitate infiltration. Army sources said that Pakistani Army also wanted to cause tensions on the Line of Control.
Army PRO in Jammu Colonel Nath said that Pakistan Army is providing cover for infiltration.
“Heavy volumes of weapons were fired towards us,” Col Nath added.
