Ruchika case: HC raps CBI, Haryana govt

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to submit its report in three cases being probed against former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore.

This notice has been issued on a PIL that was filed by advocate Lakhan Pal Singh. Notice has also been issued to Sacred Heart School over its indictment.

The court also pulled up the state government asking them how Rathore was promoted to the post of the DGP when serious charges were pending against him.

The High Court directive comes just days after the Supreme Court granted bail to Rathore in the Ruchika molestation case.

Granting the bail, a bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan, however, said 68-year-old Rathore shall not leave the country without prior permission of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Chandigarh.

The apex court granted bail after taking into consideration of closure reports by the CBI in two of the three fresh cases filed by the family of Ruchika Girhotra against Rathore and also because the former top cop has already completed six months of his 18-month sentence.
