Security forces gun down 10 Naxals in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Security forces on Monday killed 10 suspected Naxals during the encounter near Kundli village in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. One Central Reserve Police Force personnel, Himmat Singh, was killed and six others injured in the gunbattle with the Maoists and a huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered.

The over 18-hour long anti-Naxal operation started on Saturday in which a joint force of state police, CRPF and SAF engaged the rebels in a fierce gunbattle near Kundli village.

Senior police officials said the operation was launched in West Singhbhum district’s Ssaranga forest based on intelligence inputs.

Security forces have also recovered a motorcycle, about 300 kg of rice and fish, generator set, Naxal literature, printer and cartridges. Police claim the Maoists had set up a camp in the area.

All the injured security personnel have been admitted to a hospital in Ranchi.
