Rayagada (Orissa): Hours before the beginning of the two-day Bharat Bandh called by Maoists, train services under Rayagada section of East Coast Railway were disrupted for about two hours following a bomb scare which turned out to be hoax, official sources said.
An unidentified person had informed the authorities at Jemadeipentha railway station that a bomb like substance was lying near the railway tracks in between Jamadeipentha and Koneru stations, about 20 from Rayagada.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel swung into action and throughly checked the tracks but it turned out to be a hoax as no explosive like substance was found, the sources said.
Trains passing through Rayagada, which were detained at different stations for over two hours following the bomb scare, had since resumed onward journey.
The trains which were detained at different stations included Bilaspur-Tirupati express, Visakhapatnam-Korba express and Waltair passenger.
Meanwhile, the sources said that all the trains passing through Rayagada section would be accompanied by security personnel to ward off any attack by Maoists.
