New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi while delivering the closing address at the party Plenary in New Delhi on Monday claimed that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government has accomplished many of the promises made in the manifesto. Sonia said that the present regime led by her party was much better than the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance.
“In comparison with NDA, UPA has achieved more. There should be no doubt on record of UPA Government. Our record stands out distinctively when compared to NDA rule,” said Sonia.
Promising the delegates that the Congress would not be lenient with those involved in corruption cases, Sonia said that the party would show how it dealt with corruption by its action.
“We will take corruption head-on and demonstrate through actions and not words,” she said.
She accused the BJP of levelling baseless accusations against the Congress and its leadership.
“We have to confront our political opponents aggressively. All accusations levelled by Opposition, especially BJP, are blatantly baseless and unfounded,” she added.
Exhorting her party workers to stay united she said that there is simply “no alternative to unity, hardwork and discipline”.
She announced that the All India Congress Committee will set up a coordination committee to ensure regular interaction between the party and the Government.
She also asked all state Congress units to appoint a monitoring committee to give feedback on the implementation of the Government’s flagship programmes and submit a assessment report every quarter.
