New Delhi: World record-breaking wicket-taker in Tests and ODIs, Muttiah Muralitharan (see all records) will retire from all forms of international cricket after the first Test against India that is scheduled to be played in Galle from July 18 to 22.
While Muralitharan will not play one-day internationals any longer, the bowler could be available for selection if the team needs him for the 2011 World Cup.
The decision to retire was taken after a team meeting last week. Muralitharan has taken a record 792 wickets in 132 Tests and 515 wickets in 337 ODIs.
India is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka for a three-Test series starting July 18. The first Test will be played in Galle, while the second Test starting July 26 will be played at the Singalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, and the third Test from August 3 will be played at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.
India and Sri Lanka will then be joined by New Zealand for a ODI tri-series that will be played from August 10 to 28.
