Hyderabad: The pre-wedding ceremonies of the Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik will start off from Tuesday (April 13), said Imran Mirza, Sania’s father here on Friday.
Indian media was abuzz with rumours that Mirza and Malik would be getting married on Friday (April 10) itself. However, scotching the rumours, Imran Mirza said that all wedding celebrations would begin from April 13.
“I have already made the announcement that all official wedding celebrations will begin on the 13 (April 13). We will keep you updated and please bear with us. This is supposed to be a happy moment for us. Please bear with us,” said Mirza.
The impending wedding of Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik has been making headlines across the media in India and Pakistan after a Hyderabad-based woman, Ayesha Siddiqui, claimed that she was married to Malik and he couldn’t marry Mirza unless he divorced her (Ayesha) being his first wife.
Initially, Malik, however, denied having been married to Siddiqui, which then led to the registration of a criminal case against Malik. The Hyderabad police seized the cricketer”s passport.
After much hullabaloo and with the intervention of community elders, Malik finally decided to divorce Ayesha Siddiqui and put an end to the prevailing controversy.
Two of South Asia”s best-known sports personalities, Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza plan to marry on April 15 and settle in Dubai.
The 23-year-old tennis player is the first Indian to win a WTA tour event in 2005 and reached her highest world ranking of 27 two years ago although she has since slipped to 92.
Malik, 28, is an all-rounder who captained Pakistan between 2007 and 2009 and has been fighting a 12-month ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board for poor performance and indiscipline.
